The Buckingham curling club’s board of directors and the Challenge Château Cartier de Gatineau’s organizing committee held a press conference Tuesday October 8th.
The Challenge Château Cartier de Gatineau is proud to have as a partner the 2014 Scotties Tournament of Hearts which will be held in Montreal next February 1-9.
The fifth edition of the "Challenge Château Cartier de Gatineau" is part of the World Curling Tour (WCT) and will take place October 23rd to 27th 2013 in Gatineau. This first class sports event will be jointly held at the Centre Sportif Robert Rochon (in the Masson sector of Gatineau) and the Buckingham Curling Club.
This tournament is of international caliber and is now considered the biggest one in Eastern Canada.
This year, the « Pro-Am » type event will expand its field and is hoping to host 32 elite men’s teams, 16 elite women’s teams and 20 « open class » teams for a total of 272 participants who will compete for over $65,000 in purse money.
The event will be a great happening and no doubt showcase great curling for the many fans of this sport in this region. We are also anticipating that this event and the influx of many out of town teams will generate a significant economic boost to the National Capital Region.
The organizing committee can rely on its Elite Partners : DoubleTree by Hilton Ottawa-Gatineau (previously le Château Cartier), la Ville de Gatineau, Transcontinental Media, the Buckingham Curling Club, Éducation, sport et loisir Québec and Curling Québec.
The Headlining teams registered to date include 2013 Brier Champion and World Finalist Team Jacobs, 2013 Scotties Champion and World Bronze Medalist Team Homan from Ottawa, 2012 Defending Challenge Champions, Teams Dacey and Reddick, home town curler Jean-Michel Ménard and his 2013 Quebec winning team, Olympic gold medal winner, Brad Gushue and Team Cecilia Östlund from Karlstad Sweden.
Top caliber mens and womens teams are ready to rock and make this the most successful edition yet.
